Social Commentary isn't welcome on DA oUPDATE

Journal Entry: Tue May 6, 2008, 7:32 AM
UPDATE
I have received an answer from on high. And in a day. Awesome. I am posting it, in its full, so that I am not biased when paraphrasing. I value clarity in this situation.
------
The records show that the work in question did in fact contain material which was considered a violation of policy, the second sketch from the right on the bottom row.

More importantly though this submission was judged to be an attempt to continue the campaign of harassment against ~MikeMedia

Please be aware that you and your group are not the first users to attempt to figure out a way to continue targeting other deviantART users with low levels of harassment in order to avoid being banned for your actions. We do not play these games here so I advise that you keep your little trolling campaign off the site; you will not be able to excuse attempts at continued harassment and trolling as "social commentary".
-----

The piece in question is at the tavern [link] It was the girl flying up into the air like a rocket, with a trail of water below her. They didn't say why it was a violation, but it seems it falls under no urine, feces, vomit, or other bodily fluids allowed in any art posted. There are no feces flying through the air, so it can't be that. The liquid isn't steaming when it hits the ground, so it isn't urine. There are no chunks of food it in, so it isn't vomit. It must just fall under bodily fluid. If that is the case, than every picture on DA containing people filled with water is violating the same policy.

Now, was this harassing Mike? He wasn't in the picture. I didn't link it or send it to him. Unless he is the only person that does inflation art, I don't see how it could be part of the harassment campaign against him. It doesn't feature those that are banned, so they have no roll in these pictures either. I drew these while at an airport, away from the internet, all on the fly. The only link to the harassment is that I posted it at the tavern first, in the thread about mike, which then made way to inflation as a whole. We had moved on, and in that thread you can see we have. It was meant to lighten up the situation and add some fun to the proceedings.

So, I am asking all of you now, is this a good answer? Was this harassment of one man? Because if it wasn't, I should be allowed to post my picture again, just without the rocket lady. That was the only one violating policy.

I still plan to ink and color the cactus guy. Will I be allowed to post it here? It will be a full fledge piece of artwork, that on its own has nothing to do with any one thing. It has swearing, farting, inflation in an obviously cartoony style. I will have spent as much time on it as any other piece in my gallery, yet I will not be allowed to post it because it might offend one person that it isn't even directed at. At which point, I should take down my Batman and Robin piece because that might offend someone who thinks he is endangering a child.

Doesn't that seem wrong? I now have to worry about posting something that offends one person. A person that I might not even know exists.

Apparently we were all wrong with our definitions of social commentary in this case.

-------------------------------
So, I did a piece showing my observations of inflation art. It was cartoony, exaggerated, and whimsical. It peeled back the genre to show potentially darker undertones, but it was not harrassing in any way. It was slightly mature, but I added the mature content tag to it, so that is fine.

You can see it at the Tavern if you so choose: [link]

But, apparently either inflation is the sacred cow of deianTART or my commentary was too soon on the heels of the madness that was.

I pointed out no singular person in my pieces, and only commented on the fetish as a whole. I forced no one to look at it and made it no more available than the rest of the art on this site.

But it got deleted by the powers that be.

It is an observation of a genre of art, no different than if people made super heroes gay or politicians and world leaders portrayed in a negative light. It is just art. Just social commentary, and they banned it. Truly, this is a sad day, when artists are silenced for doing what artists should do, which is examine and explore current and relevant topics to the society they are a part of.

I did nothing wrong.

This just goes to show how ridiculous this has gotten on their end. My stuff was so safe yet relevant, deleting it just shows how scared and insecure they are.

I know they are watching me because of the part I played in the "scandal". I just didn't honestly believe that they would delete a picture that was just a commentary on the genre, with no mention of the players, or without harrassing specific people on the site.

It is absolute power hungry bullshit that we can't visually express our opinions on a genre of art without it getting deleted.

As cartoonists and caricature artists it is our JOB to show the inherent problems of society and the system. We do it through humor and exaggeration, which is all I did.

Whoever deleted this needs to pull their head out of their ass, because they are the definition of a fascist.

I will not stop shouting this cause until I am banned or until someone loses their position of power. I can guess which will happen.

I was just telling Shane the other day that Deviantart ISN'T a community and we'd be silly to expect it to become one. It's simply a gallery to post up art and that's all I'll ever believe it's going to be.

As Miyagi-san once say "Stupid, but fact of life."

Perhaps they sould rename the site "ART"?

"we has your opinions!"they've gone mad...and this comment might go missing too, it seems that it would be a terror if we thought for ourselves

That art was a martyr to the cause, and proved exactly what you were saying in the piece as a whole. It is a blatant miss use of power on the removers part.

There's that word again; "heavy". Why are things so heavy in the future? Is there a problem with the earth's gravitational pull?

Well, that will teach you. How dare you try to make a statement on a platform that does not allow it???! Do you think you have rights??? How about the other hurt people that see your commentary an know in their hearts that they resemble that remark, who cries for them??
All kidding aside, it is really bad that we as artists can't express ourselves the way we were meant to on deviantart, the one site that should allow it above all else!! The position that they are in to show how much power the ARTISTS on here have has dwindled to almost having to speak kiddie talk in our journals.
You are 100% right, something has to be done.

Also, if they took yours down, all of the Inflation art from DA should be removed.

oh, I agree. But this even oversteps just it being a gallery, as I in no way made the community look at this. I just posted it, and let it be.
